HOW THEY ARE MADE

Each of our desktop models is hand-carved out of reclaimed mahogany and other fine woods by our seasoned model builders to bring a faithful scale reproduction of your favorite aircraft. More than mere displays. These models serve as family treasures that could be passed on to the younger generations. You will surely appreciate the craftsmanship and history behind our models.

We use leftover wood from the furniture manufacturing industry. No trees are purposely cut for our wooden models. Our wooden desktop models are not always made to a specific scale but rather they are made so that you can easily fit and display them on your desk or bookcase. Our crafters are highly skilled artists that take great care in making our beautiful replicas to perfection. Due to color variations on the wood we can not guarantee that the color consistency will always be the same. We ship the models semi-assembled and some simple final assembly may be required. The wings for the airplanes and the blades for the helicopters will have to be plugged in but no glue is required. We guarantee our models and if for any reason you are not 100% happy with the wood model you receive let us know and we will send you a replacement right away.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This S97 Sikorsky Raider is beautifully handcrafted out of reclaimed Mahogany Wood. Each piece is crafted with intense detail and finished with three coats of polyurethane coating that gives it a high gloss finish. This fine work of art takes approximately 18 hours of labor to create. If you are a collector or simply want a fine art piece this mahogany model is sure to enhance your home or office.

The Sikorsky S97 Raider is a high-speed scout and attack compound helicopter[3] based on the Advancing Blade Concept (ABC) with a coaxial rotor system[4] under development by Sikorsky Aircraft. Sikorsky planned to offer it for the United States Army's Armed Aerial Scout program, along with other possible uses.[5] The S-97 made its maiden flight on 22 May 2015.

Sikorsky plans to build two prototypes of the S97 as demonstrators. One prototype (P1) will be used for flight testing, while the second (P2) is planned for use as a demonstrator.[10] The first prototype was planned to fly in late 2013 or early 2014.[8][11] Sikorsky started construction of the two prototypes in October 2012.[12] In September 2013, Sikorsky began final assembly of the first S-97 following delivery of the single-piece, all-composite fuselage by Aurora Flight Sciences.[13] In February 2014, construction of the first S-97 prototype was one-quarter complete. Simulated bird strikes testing had been conducted on the fuselage at speeds of up to 235 kn (435 km/h; 270 mph), the S-97's expected maximum flight speed. Drop tests were also performed to ensure the fuel tanks' safety in the event of a crash. Sikorsky is exploring civil applications for the S-97, such as transporting personnel between offshore oil platforms.[14]

Sikorsky and partner Boeing are to use the S97's technology and design process as a basis to develop the SB-1 Defiant, a high-speed rigid rotor co-axial rotorcraft, for the army's Joint Multi-Role Technology Demonstrator (JMR TD) program.[15] The JMR TD is the precursor to the army's estimated US$100 billion Future Vertical Lift (FVL) program to replace the UH-60 Black Hawk utility helicopter and AH-64 Apache attack helicopter.
